Liver Function Test (LFT)

The Liver Function Test (LFT) is a group of blood tests that help check how well your liver is working. The liver is a vital organ responsible for filtering toxins, producing proteins, and aiding digestion. LFT measures different enzymes, proteins, and substances in the blood to detect liver damage, inflammation, or disease.

The main components of an LFT include:

• ALT (Alanine Aminotransferase) and AST (Aspartate Aminotransferase): Enzymes that rise when liver cells are damaged.

• ALP (Alkaline Phosphatase): Helps detect bile duct or liver problems.

• Bilirubin: High levels may cause jaundice and indicate liver or bile issues.

• Albumin & Total Protein: Show how well the liver is making essential proteins.

• GGT (Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase): Often elevated in alcohol or bile duct problems.
