Microarray Test

A Microarray Test is a modern genetic test that helps analyze thousands of genes at the same time to detect changes or abnormalities in DNA. It is mainly used to find genetic disorders, chromosomal abnormalities, and conditions related to inherited diseases. In this test, a small sample of blood or tissue is taken, and the DNA is studied on a special chip (microarray) that can identify tiny missing (deletions) or extra (duplications) pieces of genetic material.

Doctors usually recommend this test for:

• Children with developmental delays, learning difficulties, or autism spectrum disorder

• Unexplained birth defects or intellectual disability

• Couples with a history of miscarriages or genetic disorders

• Detecting specific cancer-related gene changes

Compared to traditional genetic tests, microarray is more advanced because it can detect very small genetic changes that may not be seen under a microscope. However, it does not find all types of mutations, so sometimes additional tests are needed.
